Expertise

NabadNexus works across connected areas that help communities and institutions prevent violence, strengthen trust, and build lasting peace. Our approach combines local knowledge, inclusive dialogue, careful research, practical skills, and clear communication. The work is shaped with Somali communities and partners around the needs and context of each programme.

Peacebuilding & Reconciliation

We support inclusive peace processes that help communities address grievances, repair relationships, and agree on practical ways to live and work together. Reconciliation is strongest when people affected by conflict help define the issues, take part in dialogue, and shape the steps that follow.

Our work can include community consultations, facilitated dialogue, conflict analysis, local peace initiatives, and support for community-led reconciliation. We pay attention to the different experiences of women, young people, elders, displaced people, and other groups whose voices may be overlooked.

Preventing Violent Extremism (P/CVE)

We help partners understand the local conditions that can increase vulnerability to violence and identify responses that strengthen resilience. Prevention should be grounded in evidence, protect people’s rights, and involve communities rather than rely on one-size-fits-all solutions.

Activities may include risk and context analysis, community-led prevention planning, training for practitioners, dialogue between communities and institutions, and communication that builds critical thinking and social cohesion. We support approaches that address drivers of harm while avoiding stigma and exclusion.

Security Sector Reform & Accountability

Public safety depends on security institutions that are professional, accountable, trusted, and responsive to the people they serve. We contribute research and dialogue on how governance, oversight, policy, and institutional practice can support more transparent and people-centred security.

Our work may include policy and institutional analysis, consultations with communities and practitioners, support for constructive oversight, and learning activities that strengthen accountability. We focus on practical recommendations that reflect local priorities, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.

Community–Law Enforcement Cooperation

Safer communities are built through communication, trust, and cooperation between residents and the institutions responsible for public safety. We create opportunities for communities and law enforcement to discuss concerns, understand one another’s roles, and identify locally relevant ways to improve safety and access to justice.

This work can include community safety dialogue, joint problem-solving, relationship-building, practical training, and feedback mechanisms. Inclusive participation helps ensure that women, young people, and groups with different experiences can contribute to local priorities.

Gender, Peace & Security

Peace and security efforts are more responsive when women and girls can participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives. We support approaches that recognise diverse experiences, remove barriers to participation, and include gender perspectives throughout analysis, planning, implementation, and learning.

Our work may include gender-sensitive conflict analysis, support for women’s participation in peace and security dialogue, capacity-building, and guidance for partners who want to make their programmes more inclusive. We also consider the roles and needs of young people and other communities affected by insecurity.

Research, Policy & Early Warning

Timely, locally grounded analysis helps communities, practitioners, and decision-makers understand changing risks and make informed choices. We connect research with policy dialogue and practical communication so that evidence can be used by the people who need it.

Our work can include conflict and context analysis, policy briefs, community-informed research, monitoring of emerging concerns, and early-warning analysis. We aim to present findings clearly, explain their limitations, and support timely prevention and response.

How our expertise connects

These areas reinforce one another. Research can guide prevention; inclusive dialogue can improve institutional trust; and responsible communication can make useful knowledge easier to access. NabadNexus works with communities, civil society, public institutions, researchers, and partners to connect these efforts around shared priorities.
